Akin Orbay is a composer, producer and drummer based in Los Angeles. His vision is to tell life through music, no matter what the genre is or his part in the creation of it. He intends to relate to people’s lives and bring perspective through music.
Born in Ankara in 1994, he first started playing the violin as a kid. He switched to drums at age 15, studying with drummer and percussionist Teymuralp Merter Fosforoglu. His eagerness to learn more and extend his abilities helped him improve in a short time and expand his musical knowledge. He had the incredible opportunity of going to the United States for practicing drums with the greats like Dave Weckl, Peter Erskine and Steve Smith in the Drum Fantasy Camp in 2011. Coming into Berklee College of Music in 2012, he became aware of the fact that only playing was not enough for him (although he kept going with the chamber/fusion band CGC), he wanted to create and explore. He put the same passion that brought him to Berklee to write and produce music, and eventually to search for a unique viewpoint for music, bringing him to his vision. During this time, he was equipped with a diverse range of experiences that helped him with this task, from being part of Berklee’s Stage Crew constructing live shows and performing his arrangement at the BPC on a department showcase concert, to doing sound design for an experimental movie installation, and everything in between.
Graduating Summa Cum Laude from Berklee with a Bachelor's Degree in Contemporary Writing and Production and Professional Music in 2017, he hopes to continue searching through different parts of making music and learning in the process. He has been continuing his work from Los Angeles since September 2017.
